The other day....a grey day at that...we had visitors outside the studio.

I love these birds. This is one of a pair. I almost had them both in a single shot and then I must have moved and startled them.

A lovely shot of this guy. Our pileated woodpeckers were more visible in the past—well, as visible as these shy birds are. Now I just hear them drumming and sometimes see new nest openings in the trees. Had a sighting last year of one guy feeding at a dead tree stump—he was a beauty.
