Getting Ready for Thanksgiving 2011!

I drove to Nashville, TN to Bliss Yarns last week for a Trunk Show on Saturday!  It was a great time.  Nice folks all the way around - from Dana, Tyna, Emily, Kim and all of their customers!  You were all wonderful!  Thanks!

Now to Thanksgiving!  While I was Nashville, I stopped by Trader Joe's to stock up on some goodies like wild rice and olive oil.  But I got crackers and cheese and potatoes, and lots more for basic home stock, but also for Thanksgiving Dinner.  Last night I went to Boone to do the real shopping.  I got the Turkey from Earth Fare, plus corn bread stuffing makings and pumpkin pie makings!

Well, I actually got some of what I needed for pumpkin pie two weeks ago.  The real key to really flavorful pumpkin pie is fresh spices.  I was at Earth Fare and bought fresh cloves, ginger, and cinnamon in their bulk spices area.  I love buying my spices this way because I don't have to buy more than I plan on using in the next month or two, and the price is much better than buying the bottles at one of the big box stores.

So here's what we are having for Thanksgiving:

  • Turkey
  • Wild rice stuffing
  • Corn bread stuffing - with walnuts and fresh sage and thyme from my herb garden
  • Smashed red potatoes
  • Steamed broccoli
  • Cucumber salad - Trader Joe's had some lovely cukes that will be sliced up with a bit of shallot and malt vinegar
  • Cranberry relish - fresh cranberries, walnuts, and an orange put through the grinder and a bit of sugar added.  Simple, but incredibly tasty!
  • A can of cranberry jelly
  • Pumpkin pies with real whipped cream

I am sure other things will find their way to the table...but my favorite thing is to eat lightly at Thanksgiving dinner and then have a cold turkey sandwich Thanksgiving evening!

Oh and we might have something going on the website for the weekend through Cyber Monday!

Sounds delicious! You know Trader Joe’s is opening a store in Knoxville near West Town Mall next year, yes? It’s not certain when it’ll open but I’ve heard they’ve started construction.

That’s wonderful!!
