Featured May 2021: Dulcinea

Our featured yarn this month is Dulcinea--when you place an order with us, you'll get a 10 yard sample to swatch, and you'll see why we love it so much.

Dulcinea is the laceweight version of Kunlun, a sweet and luxurious blend of Merino, cashmere, and silk. Dulcinea has a soft luster from the silk and will work up with a halo from the cashmere.  All three fibers take color beautifully, and the silk adds a lovely sheen.

This yarn will be beautiful in a lacy project that you really want to glow! Also, because of the silk content, Dulcinea is strong enough to handle the weight of beads, so if you like adding beads to your projects (or are interested in trying this technique), Dulcinea is a great choice for you.

Featured in our video are:

Chardon (Ravelry link) by Susanna IC is inspired by the architectural beauty of the milk thistle plant.  This design combines a traditional lace pattern with interesting asymmetry for a modern interpretation of a lace stole. This generously-sized wrap is worked in one piece, end-to-end, without the need for center grafting. Our sample was knit in Blue Mussel.

Whiteout by Melanie Berg is the perfect project for losing yourself in your knitting. Intricate, repetitive flurries of crystalline lace edge this asymmetrical triangle scarf, while the soothing garter stitch section allows your mind — and eyes — to relax.  Our sample is in Old Gold and White Peppercorn.

Vineyard Shawl  by Lana Jois starts by casting on a single stitch from which lovely vines emerge to become a large, lacy, light-as-a-feather triangular wrap. The easily-memorized lace pattern may be worked from charts or written instructions and is perfect for some relaxed, outdoor knitting.  Our sample is knit in Dried Lavender.

Le Strange by Boo Knits (from our Book Club!) is a pretty and romantic crescent shaped shawl. The shawl starts with lace right from the very beginning – a gentle undulating pattern that travels into a beaded lace panel which then flows seamlessly into the border. Our sample is knit in Bloodstone.

Morningstar by Boo Knits is a beaded and lacy, top-down, crescent shaped shawl designed to be knit in almost any solid colored, or semi-solid, heavy-weight lace yarn. We knit our sample in Frozen.

Saudade by Susanna IC combines all of the things the designer loves about shawl knitting: lace, beads, and cables, combined to evoke the Portuguese concept of 'saudade,' a deep emotional longing, nostalgia, and melancholy. Susanna's sample is knit in Spiny.
