Spring is Here!! and More about 2014
Babs Ausherman
We are barely into the fourth month of the year and it has already been very...busy, crazy, emotional, whelming and overwhelming, and filled with lots of dyeing and readying for shows.  Personal and business has been much intermixed--not always what one wants, but sometimes you just can't not mix the two. Many of you know that my apprentice, Jen H., was was diagnosed with a brain tumor, which has required chemotherapy and radiation.  This has been a difficult space of time for all, and most of all for Jen who... My, Oh My...the Year Has Flown By Fast!!
Babs Ausherman
I simply cannot believe that we are here in December and I am thinking about cleaning out and starting fresh. I know, I know I am a bit early with this, but last weekend I managed to clean one of my attics out (yes, there are two of them in my house on either side of the knee walls.) In part, I needed to do this is because there is enough stuff in there that it's hard to get at the Christmas decorations, and also because I feel a need... Read More
Winner from the Last Post
Helen C
We picked the winner from our Thanksgiving giveaway today, and I couldn't be happier with the wisdom of the Random Number Generator!    The winning comment was from Sandra J: "I’m thankful that after nearly a year and a half of being out of work, I got a job last month! Don’t make enough to buy yarn right now, but I’m also thankful that I have a stash and a future."   I have emailed her to ask which color of Ephemeral she would like, and we will be sending... The Website and Fall Shows
Babs Ausherman
We are getting close to our last shows of the year! Rhinebeck and SAFF are this coming weekend and next. You will notice that we are having to take lots of everything off the website.  We will leave some things on, but in some bases, we just have to take everything! This is not how we like to do things, but this fall it just has to be this way. Here's a sneak peek of our van loaded with boxes of yarn...   After our two shows, we will take... Read More
The Winner is.... (And what is this plant??)
Babs Ausherman
Thank you everyone for sharing your plants and fallishness.  The winner is.... Cheryl M!  I have contacted her and await her response. She wins a skein in the color of her choice of Yummy 2-ply Sock yarn and a Martina Behm pattern in Miss Winkle! Also, I forgot to include this picture in my blog post the other day.  I saw this shrubby plant on the edge of our driveway and have never noticed it before. What the heck is it??   The balls are made up of very pointy... Read More
September - Here She Comes!!
Babs Ausherman
In just two days, September will be here.  It always marked the true end of summer to me, even though the days were often still hot, the light had already begun to shift and the days were getting ever so slightly shorter. As a kid, I hated it.  As an adult, I often think about how I have missed most of summer and how did that happen?? When I was a kid, summer lasted forever, now it seems like it is two weeks long.  How did I miss vacation time?... Read More
On The Road and At the Studio
Babs Ausherman
Babs here...Jen and I are on the road between Stitches Midwest and Michigan Fiber Festival.  At home, it has been raining cats and dogs and frogs.  Roads, and driveways, and basements are full of water!  Here's a picture Carmen took this morning of one of the roads in to where my house and studio are.     Apparently the road from the other direction has the asphalt coming up from it and and will be turning into a mud/clay mess?? The real reason for this post is to let you... Read More
Acer Cardigan in Progress
Veronica Parsons
Stitches Midwest is coming up fast and I'm working on my Acer Cardigan as a new sample for our booth! I'm knitting it in Yowza in Oyster, which is a soft warm grey. Yowza is probably my favorite yarn to knit sweaters out of (and one day I'll get to keep one for myself - so far they have all been samples.) Acer is a lovely cardigan by Amy Christoffers with some cable-and-lace detail. I've actually had it in my queue to knit for a long time, so I was... Read More
The Flower Garden
Babs Ausherman
Last year in August, we headed off to do what we call our Midwest Tour.  We head to Stitches Midwest in Schaumburg, Il and then a week later we are at Michigan Fiber Festival in Allegan, MI.   When we left, I knew that some drainage work was going to be done which would include needing to dig across one of the four tiers of my flower garden.  When I came home, three of the four tiers was covered up by clay dirt and to nicely finish it off, a... Yarn and... Molasses?
Helen C
Helen here...    My family has always been slightly different in our pastimes. Writing stories, knitting, silversmithing, woodworking, antique photographic processes, exercise, we've tried it all. My younger sister's latest thing is taking photos with a jar of Molasses. There is a long, crazy story explaining this, which you can find on her Molasses Tumbler page.    At any rate, wherever she goes, and wherever other members of my family go, Molasses photos are taken. (I abstain. I'm not a huge molasses fan. Sticky things don't do well with yarn,... Read More
It's nearly time ...
Babs
The 2013 Knitting Tour is nearly here! 2012 has been a wonderful year of armchair travel, exploration, and of course knitting!   In the spring, we visited the Seychelles Islands with Susanna IC and knit this lovely lightweight lace shawlette with beads in Yet. [caption id="attachment_1293" align="aligncenter" width="500"] Seychelles by Susanna IC[/caption]   The summer took us to the moors with Romi, with a textured shawl in Yummy 3-ply Sport. [caption id="attachment_1292" align="aligncenter" width="432"] Mistlethwaite by Romi Hill[/caption]   The Sierra Nevadas were our destination in the autumn, and we... Read More
