"State of the Studio" - 2015
Babs Ausherman
The POTUS (President of the United States) gets a State of the Union and GOTN (Governor of Tennessee) get a State of the State, I might as well get to have a State of the Studio. 2015 brings us to a bustling year and we are absolutely busting at the seams in the studio in terms of people and yarn as we prep for shows. And we want to thank everyone who participated in the Annual Gratitude Sale! It emptied our racks - which now means I am dyeing madly... Read More
Smurf Spinning!
Babs Ausherman
I haven't been spinning much lately, but I decided to do a little last week after I sprained my ankle.  I've been sitting a fair amount, and I actually needed to exercise that ankle a little.  So I thought a little spinning might do the trick.  It seems to be helping.    The colorway I chose is Smurf and Turf in my BFL and Silk blend. I use a Schacht Lady Bug to spin on.  Here's is one of the bobbins of with half of the fiber spun on it... Read More
Yarn and... Molasses?
Helen C
Helen here...    My family has always been slightly different in our pastimes. Writing stories, knitting, silversmithing, woodworking, antique photographic processes, exercise, we've tried it all. My younger sister's latest thing is taking photos with a jar of Molasses. There is a long, crazy story explaining this, which you can find on her Molasses Tumbler page.    At any rate, wherever she goes, and wherever other members of my family go, Molasses photos are taken. (I abstain. I'm not a huge molasses fan. Sticky things don't do well with yarn,... Read More
Bad Girl! Bad Girl!

So I have been bad and not blogged in forever, and one of my customers told me as much at dinner tonight!  So here I am...no pictures, I am on the wrong computer for that, but adding some words to the blog.   We are at Rhinebeck for the first time ever as vendors!  We are all excited!   We are in Building C, Booths 25/26.  Nice building with natural light and good space.  We have brought lots of yarn in lots of bases, as well as lots of fiber!... A Fiber Post...Finally!
Babs
Jen here: Fiber.  It's there at the end of the name of the business!  We certainly don't mean to give fiber the short end of the stick here at Miss Babs, even if that stick has a beautiful whorl from the Bosworth's or the Dyak's.  So here today we will focus on fiber, and we start with one of our favorites - Bluefaced Leicester. BFL is at the top of our favorites list for a variety of practical reasons.  It exhibits an almost ideal compromise between softness and durability.  This... Read More
Did You Know??
Babs
There's lots of things to learn about fibers and yarns. Everything from how to knit and crochet to how to create the yarn to knit and crochet with.  Then there's felting, wet and needle.  Two years ago, I might have said I know a lot about fiber and yarn, but this is one of those subjects that the more you learn, the more you realize how much more there is to learn.  And there are lots of directions to go in building that knowledge. So here are some of the... Read More
