We don't talk a lot about exactly how the dye magic happens here at Miss Babs (hey, we have to have some secrets!) but today we're going to go into... Read More
Help! New DK needs a name!
Jennifer J
Coming soon from Miss Babs - A new DK yarn that we would like YOU to help us name!  The new yarn is soft, superwash, 100% Merino with 3 smooth plies that create a smooshy, springy DK weight yarn.  Please join us in the quest to come up with a terrific name for our New DK!  You can submit your suggestions by commenting here, on our Facebook page, or on our Ravelry group. We will compile all the entries and select TWO winners.  One winner will be randomly selected from... Read More
Heading West
Babs Ausherman
This coming week is all Stitches and all #StitchesWest! We have been able to ship quite a bit of yarn in spite of the fact that Jen H. wasn't there to dye and process and wash yarn like she normally is.  Everyone else in the studio stepped up to help out!  In spite of how much we have shipped, I actually have some extra that I dyed to leave here for the website so that those of you not going to Santa Clara will still have some things to check... Acer Cardigan in Progress
Veronica Parsons
Stitches Midwest is coming up fast and I'm working on my Acer Cardigan as a new sample for our booth! I'm knitting it in Yowza in Oyster, which is a soft warm grey. Yowza is probably my favorite yarn to knit sweaters out of (and one day I'll get to keep one for myself - so far they have all been samples.) Acer is a lovely cardigan by Amy Christoffers with some cable-and-lace detail. I've actually had it in my queue to knit for a long time, so I was... Read More
Smurf Spinning!
Babs Ausherman
I haven't been spinning much lately, but I decided to do a little last week after I sprained my ankle.  I've been sitting a fair amount, and I actually needed to exercise that ankle a little.  So I thought a little spinning might do the trick.  It seems to be helping.    The colorway I chose is Smurf and Turf in my BFL and Silk blend. I use a Schacht Lady Bug to spin on.  Here's is one of the bobbins of with half of the fiber spun on it... Read More
It Is A Puzzlement
Helen C
Sometimes, working for Babs is a dangerous thing. Getting to see all the gorgeous new Babettes hanging to dry, it is hard not to put little notes everywhere "Helen wants this one" "Hold for Helen" "DON'T TOUCH!" (I actually did this a week or two ago, for a skein of Gold Digger Yasmin. It just REALLY NEEDED to come home with me!!)   I've been practicing restraint, and the fact that I publicly announced my yarn diet at the beginning of the year means I get in trouble with Jen... Daylilies in the Garden
Babs Ausherman
Here are some of the daylilies that are blooming right now in my garden.  I don't know the names of any of them, as I picked them for their colors and some were gifts.                 The wonderful thing about my daylilies are that they are right across the drive from the studio and add wonderful color to my day.  My sister Jeanne and I planted many of these about 10 years ago in memory of my mother - who loved to garden and see things grow.... Viajante! Coming Down to the End!
Babs Ausherman
My current project is a Viajante, a Martina Behm design.  She knit it out of Wollmeise lace and I am knitting it out of my Yasmin Lace. The shawl/overgarment (I'm not sure how it will fit me) has been one of those long knits that I have absolutely enjoyed.       Yasmin is wonderful in the hands...I am sure that is part of the enjoyment, but it is also one of those projects I can pick up at the end of the day and just keep knitting without having... All Aboard! Miss Babs 2013 Knitting Tour
Babs Ausherman
We've had a blast on the 2012 Knitting Tour, and are now pleased to invite you to join us on our second year of the Miss Babs Knitting Tour! We don't want to give away too much, so all we will say at present is that we will again visit 4 locations. This year there are 2 islands, 3 cities, and 2 continents, mostly in the Northern Hemisphere. We will travel in March, June, September, and December, giving you plenty of time to explore (and knit in!) each stop.   This past year we visited... Read More
While the Cats are Away...
Babs
Now that Babs and the Jens are gone, the dust is settling and we are taking stock of what is left here at the studio. Although Jen was INCREDIBLY greedy in what she took with her for Stitches West, we do still have some new colors here, which I will be putting up over the course of the next few days... We've Been Searching for that One Right Word or Phrase...Can You Help?
Babs
As many of you know, I do lots of repeatable colorways in monochromes and handpaints.  But I have also started doing a lot of "one of a kind" colorways that are essentially limited editions.   We have tried using the phrase "A Day at ..." as a way to indicate this difference, and then we couldn't find more that didn't sound really contrived.  We have done a selection of "The Wreck of..." (which we will continue to do) but these tend to have a lot of blue. And then we... Read More
