April Showers...April 15, 2014

Bring May Flowers! Our next show is Maryland Sheep and Wool, held the first weekend of May - May 3 and 4 on the Howard County Fairgrounds in West Friendship, Maryland. If you have never been, it's a great show with lots of vendors and LOTS of critters!  Generally beautiful spring weather and a great time is had by all. I absolutely love this show! The sights and smells are fun to experience. One of my favorite things, when I wasn't a vendor, was watching the Sheep to Shawl event on Sunday. It is incredible to watch a fleece go...

Spring is Here!! and More about 2014April 06, 2014

We are barely into the fourth month of the year and it has already been very...busy, crazy, emotional, whelming and overwhelming, and filled with lots of dyeing and readying for shows.  Personal and business has been much intermixed--not always what one wants, but sometimes you just can't not mix the two. Many of you know that my apprentice, Jen H., was was diagnosed with a brain tumor, which has required chemotherapy and radiation.  This has been a difficult space of time for all, and most of all for Jen who is almost done with 6 weeks of treatments. At this...

Heading WestFebruary 15, 2014

This coming week is all Stitches and all #StitchesWest! We have been able to ship quite a bit of yarn in spite of the fact that Jen H. wasn't there to dye and process and wash yarn like she normally is.  Everyone else in the studio stepped up to help out!  In spite of how much we have shipped, I actually have some extra that I dyed to leave here for the website so that those of you not going to Santa Clara will still have some things to check out and pick from.  You can expect that yarn will...

TodayFebruary 04, 2014

This blog post is intensely personal in many ways.  I don't talk much about my personal life because it's, well, personal. And when I expose my personal life, it also means I am exposing the personal life of others, and that is not always fair for them. Since last fall, I have been saying to myself and folks here that I have had this "feeling" that I need to spend more time with my husband and family this coming year, and wanted to do a bit less traveling so that I could do this. So we're not far into January...

My, Oh My...the Year Has Flown By Fast!!December 02, 2013

I simply cannot believe that we are here in December and I am thinking about cleaning out and starting fresh. I know, I know I am a bit early with this, but last weekend I managed to clean one of my attics out (yes, there are two of them in my house on either side of the knee walls.) In part, I needed to do this is because there is enough stuff in there that it's hard to get at the Christmas decorations, and also because I feel a need to declutter.  Some of the things that were in there...

Winner from the Last PostDecember 06, 2013

We picked the winner from our Thanksgiving giveaway today, and I couldn't be happier with the wisdom of the Random Number Generator!    The winning comment was from Sandra J: "I’m thankful that after nearly a year and a half of being out of work, I got a job last month! Don’t make enough to buy yarn right now, but I’m also thankful that I have a stash and a future."   I have emailed her to ask which color of Ephemeral she would like, and we will be sending her yarn, pattern, and needles early next week!   Have...

Being Thankful, and Other Related ThingsNovember 24, 2013

This time of year I start thinking.  Around here, most of the people say, "Uh oh, she's thinking" and it probably means another To Do list is about to be shared with them. But there's something about the change from Daylight Savings Time to Standard Time that means that I slow down a bit. I have more time to think and to ponder because of that. I go slower. I am already thinking about next year, but I am also thinking about this year and what has happened for us at Miss Babs, and what has happened in our personal...

Rambling about the Studio and Being Back HomeNovember 09, 2013

So we've been back in the studio for most of the past month busily dyeing for orders from shows, for the Bliss Trunk Show that was 10 days ago in Brentwood (Nashville, TN), as well as some special things for Thanksgiving and the gift season.  It has been wonderful to get some full nights of sleep, to spend some time with our loved ones who don't see us much during October when we're at the end of prepping for shows and then being on the road. I missed the last of the zinnias before the first frost.  Now I have...

The Website and Fall ShowsOctober 12, 2013

We are getting close to our last shows of the year! Rhinebeck and SAFF are this coming weekend and next. You will notice that we are having to take lots of everything off the website.  We will leave some things on, but in some bases, we just have to take everything! This is not how we like to do things, but this fall it just has to be this way. Here's a sneak peek of our van loaded with boxes of yarn...   After our two shows, we will take a much-needed couple of days off, and then we will...
