Guest Post from Romi Hill - Simee DimehNovember 29, 2015

Today we're turning over the blog to Romi Hill, lace designer extraordinaire, to discuss her latest design, the Simee Dimeh Shawl. Created together with Babs' color development in two special colorways, it features a variety of lace, textured stitches, and mosaic knitting.

Babs adds: developing colors is one of the things I love doing the most, especially when it creates a result like this. The combination of colors, letting them play off one another, makes each of them stand out and have more depth.

Weaving AlongNovember 22, 2015

Jennifer here... Fall is a busy time of year at the studio as we get ready for and accomplish the last shows of the season, and of course, there is also a lot of planning for 2016 and beyond! Now that we are "home" for a while, I'd like to share the recent projects from the loom. Since the first weaving was more weft-faced than planned, the next scarf focused on achieving a better balance. I used Northumbria Fingering again, this time using a dark tonal Into the Void for the warp, and Moonlight Stroll for the weft. I changed...

On Our Needles October 2015September 28, 2015

We're going to squeak in at the very end of October with more of what we've been working on! In between and around our Rhinebeck sweaters, there's been room for other knitting, and weaving too.

Poly Chevron Cowl Color IdeasOctober 22, 2015

I created the Poly Chevron Cowl as a way to bring together the colors in our Polydactyl Sets for an accessory that's easy to knit and wear. This cowl is knit in the round, using a provisional cast on, and the two ends are grafted together.

I got a chance to play with some yarn this morning and put together some other color combinations that might make a great Poly Chevron Cowl - check them out!

Getting Ready for Fall ShowsSeptember 20, 2015

It's almost time for our two big fall shows, Rhinebeck and SAFF.

Getting ready for a show means that the tempo in the studio changes. It picks up. Everybody moves a bit faster, the days last a bit longer and there is more to be done in the day. We also move to doing some overtime so that we can get as much done as possible!

Comparing the Yowza Weigh It ShawlsAugust 25, 2015

Susan B. Anderson's Yowza Weigh It Shawls have been a hit - and for good reason! Each shawl gives the knitter the opportunity to make the most of one big skein of Yowza. No matching, no alternating, just simple, mostly-garter-stitch knitting creates a great accessory. And this week, you're in luck - through October 14, all of these patterns are on sale!

Here's a little bit more about each shawl - all of these are currently on rotation at our shows, so you can also see them in person. The shapes, though, are sometimes a little hard to see when they're on mannequins or people, so we figured we'd show them all in one place here.

Blog Tour: New Patterns from Knit Play ColourSeptember 02, 2015

Today we're excited to dive into color and bring you new patterns from Louise Zass-Bangham of Inspiration Knits. Louise has written a new book, Knit Play Colour, that takes a collection of patterns and shows you how you can take an idea and push and pull it into different directions for different effects.  We are always playing with color and mixing up new color combinations, so we love the spirit of Louise's new book. Featured on the cover is Affinity, which stripes two skeins of fingering weight yarn. Depending on what you choose, the effect can be wild or subtle. Of course we...

New Colors for Fall 2015July 10, 2015

While brights have been very popular for the last few years - and bright colors are some of our best sellers! - we've been working to develop new colorways that have a slightly more neutral undertone.

We think a neutral undertone gives depth and interest, makes the colors more wearable, (especially in larger garments like sweaters), and also helps colors coordinate and blend. Here are five of our newest colors for Fall 2015:
