Babs Ausherman
This blog post is intensely personal in many ways.  I don't talk much about my personal life because it's, well, personal. And when I expose my personal life, it also means I am exposing the personal life of others, and that is not always fair for them. Since last fall, I have been saying to myself and folks here that I have had this "feeling" that I need to spend more time with my husband and family this coming year, and wanted to do a bit less traveling so that... The Winner is.... (And what is this plant??)
Babs Ausherman
Thank you everyone for sharing your plants and fallishness.  The winner is.... Cheryl M!  I have contacted her and await her response. She wins a skein in the color of her choice of Yummy 2-ply Sock yarn and a Martina Behm pattern in Miss Winkle! Also, I forgot to include this picture in my blog post the other day.  I saw this shrubby plant on the edge of our driveway and have never noticed it before. What the heck is it??   The balls are made up of very pointy... Read More
September - Here She Comes!!
Babs Ausherman
In just two days, September will be here.  It always marked the true end of summer to me, even though the days were often still hot, the light had already begun to shift and the days were getting ever so slightly shorter. As a kid, I hated it.  As an adult, I often think about how I have missed most of summer and how did that happen?? When I was a kid, summer lasted forever, now it seems like it is two weeks long.  How did I miss vacation time?... Read More
On The Road and At the Studio
Babs Ausherman
Babs here...Jen and I are on the road between Stitches Midwest and Michigan Fiber Festival.  At home, it has been raining cats and dogs and frogs.  Roads, and driveways, and basements are full of water!  Here's a picture Carmen took this morning of one of the roads in to where my house and studio are.     Apparently the road from the other direction has the asphalt coming up from it and and will be turning into a mud/clay mess?? The real reason for this post is to let you... Read More
Thursday - Where did the week go?
Babs Ausherman
It's Thursday already!  The week is almost gone and there is still lots to do!  I have some random things that need to be shared: We will select a winner for Helen's blog post the other day sometime today and post here and on Facebook and Ravelry. We are ramping up for shows in the Midwest and lots of things are being dyed, so we have started the pre-show frenzy that hits us periodically through the year. Jen and Jen are going to Nashville tomorrow for SSK - Super Summer... Read More
Daylilies in the Garden
Babs Ausherman
Here are some of the daylilies that are blooming right now in my garden.  I don't know the names of any of them, as I picked them for their colors and some were gifts.                 The wonderful thing about my daylilies are that they are right across the drive from the studio and add wonderful color to my day.  My sister Jeanne and I planted many of these about 10 years ago in memory of my mother - who loved to garden and see things grow.... The Flower Garden
Babs Ausherman
Last year in August, we headed off to do what we call our Midwest Tour.  We head to Stitches Midwest in Schaumburg, Il and then a week later we are at Michigan Fiber Festival in Allegan, MI.   When we left, I knew that some drainage work was going to be done which would include needing to dig across one of the four tiers of my flower garden.  When I came home, three of the four tiers was covered up by clay dirt and to nicely finish it off, a... Here We Go Up Again
Babs
Well, we've been putting this off for a while, but the time has finally come that some of our yarn prices need to be adjusted upward.  This decision was forced when one of our yarn bases went up almost almost 25% about 2 months ago.  It was just as we were packing yarn to ship to the West Coast for Stitches West.  That jump forced me to sit down and really look at the increases that have been happening in the past two years on most of my yarn bases.... Not Yet Winter...
Babs
As the year is drawing to a close, we are busy.  Here is Wurm in Biker Chick and Blackbird Yummy 2 ply on the needles and almost finished! Here is a finished one!  I told you we are busy!  This one is again Yummy 2 ply, but this one is a Babette named Origami.   One more brag off the needles is the Denver Cowl, designed by Veronica and completed with one skein of Yowza.   Busy planning for next year's shows, dye schedule, and Knitting Tour. Busy making sure... Read More
Christmas is Coming!
Babs
(N.B. To keep this post to a decent length, and also because it is Babs' blog, I will limit the projects I mention to those using Babs' yarn.) I am one of those ambitious knitters who always likes to knit most of her Christmas (and other) gifts. This is partially because I like knitting, and partially because I often express love through yarn, and Christmas is all about love. This year's line-up is, as always, extensive and impossible. Here are some of the projects I have in mind for gifts:... Read More
The Leaves Have Fallen, But the Year is Not Over!!
Babs
I used to think that when the leaves had fallen, that the year was pretty well done!  But we have lots left to do this year!! NYC Trunk Show Next week, Jen and I head to New York City for a Trunk Show at The Yarn Company on Saturday, November 17.  Jen and I actually went shopping yesterday over in Winston-Salem so that we wouldn't just show up in Columbia pants and LL Bean shirts.  This is my normal wear for the mountains and in the studio, but we thought... Where the...?
Babs
[caption id="attachment_1249" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Don't even ask![/caption] Now that we are back in the studio after Rhinebeck and SAFF and a few well earned days off, we have discovered how annoying a certain word has become for several of our crew. "Where is this?" "Where did the such-n-such get put?" Where, where, where??? So in the spirit of giving that the holiday seasons brings, we have put our own spin on the swear jar!   The Where? jar, requires that anyone who uses the dreaded word pay into the jar... Read More
