Fall is my favorite time of the year to get ready for a show. The weather is generally not rainy, the sun is out, and the light has changed somewhat as the sun moves (or the earth moves?) The yarn dries incredibly fast because the air is drier than at any other time of the year.
Getting ready for a show means that the tempo in the studio changes. It picks up. Everybody moves a bit faster, the days last a bit longer and there is more to be done in the day. We also move to doing some overtime so that we can get as much done as possible! This is the best time to find lots of colors, but we also pack things away in preparation of filling racks and pegs at shows.
Other things we are doing right now is making sure we have all of our samples prepped and ready. We have added new ones for you to check out and see in our yarns, including in new colors. I have developed new colors as well, so we want to make sure we have those colors dyed across bases and available on the website as well as at shows.
Before the shows we also want to be sure the truck (tires and general mechanics) and trailer (tires and undercarriage) are in good form. Both of these babies have been off to the mechanic and tire place for a check-up.
A new change at shows this year has been a change to using Square for processing credit card payments. Their technology has allowed us to process credit card transactions somewhat more quickly than before. We hope this continues to be true at both Rhinebeck and SAFF. Each of these venues has had issues with sufficient connectivity.
We're still waiting on the new EMV hardware technology that will allow us to process chip cards and touchless payments, but we're also looking forward to those as they will provide added security to the payment system.
A fun part of Rhinebeck and SAFF is creating the limited-edition show colorway, available each morning in our booth. It's always a surprise!
We're putting the last few boxes together and soon we'll be on the road again. We can't wait to see you!
