Sun Made a Showing!

Yesterday started out the same as so many days lately - rainy!  I know I should not complain about the rain, and how it is restoring water levels to the good finally.  However, the Great Golden Orb did show up in the afternoon.  I was able to take a walk around the property and assess what needs to be done (some will get done and some won't!!)

Here's some of the gardens that obviously need some cleaning out.  That's the studio in the background.

The house/carport is in the background from these gardens.

You can see the thistle and weeds are gaining foothold already, no doubt the rain has helped them!!

I am amazed that the bagworms are already so busy!  I am told that they don't hurt the trees and shrubs they are on, but they sure aren't an attractive addition. I remember by dad always had the branches cut of and burned the worms.  Do you think he enjoyed it?!  Sort of like trying to kill the red ants in ant hills in Florida?

So, other more interesting things on my walk included the dogs doing spring things.  During the winter, the dogs were like kids on snowdays.  What can we do now? Why is it still so cold and snowy? Is there something to eat? They slept a lot too.  Now we're back to their kind of gardening activity. Dottie is working with chipmunks to update the landscape.

The magnolia tree is in bloom.  I need to clear out around this tree so it can feel free to grow and expand.

I also saw violets and little wild irises blooming, and the daylilies building their leaves up.  I think it is time to add some tomatoes. Apparently the signs are right for planting them today, so says one of the local oldtimers. I believe it too.  My in-laws always planted and harvested by the signs. But we are now in the third quarter and so transplanting is good.  Not sure what sign the moon is in, but my calendar has the little sign that says today is a planting day.  It may be a good day to plant some lettuce seeds and zinnias.  I do love zinnias!!  All the crazy colors!  They are alo great for cutting and bringing into the house.
