Tierno is a new yarn for us! Actually we added this yarn earlier this fall and have only had it available at shows. Tierno is 70% Baby Alpaca and 30% Cultivated Silk. Each skein has 310 yards and knits at a DK gauge. It is sweetly soft and ideal for those who have wool allergies.
We now have it listed on the website and will be adding more colors and colorways over the next few months. I knitted a scarf with Tierno using Anne Hanson's Rivolo. It was a pleasant knit, with a lovely feel as it flowed through my fingers. Alpaca takes the colors in a more muted way, so these yarns have a luscious color softness as well as being soft to the touch.

We will be giving away a skein of Tierno to a randomly picked person who comments on the blog between now and 12 noon EST on Wednesday, December 15 .
NOTE: Your comment should include which color of Tierno you like the best and indicate what you would like to make with it.
And just so you can see what is happening in the mountains of East Tennessee. They have predicted a total of 8 plus inches of snow!

I’d love a scarf in the Forever Monochrome color, but all your colors are fabulous. Here on the gulf, no snow just freezing temps. Happy Holidays.
As always, it’s hard to choose colors as they are all wonderful, but if I chose one right at this moment, it would be praline. And what to knit? Likely it would be one of Anne Hanson’s lovely lace patterns. I recently purchased Hypoteneuse and could make the scarf version. Usually, though, the yarn and the color call to me for a particular pattern and I’ll know for sure when I have it in my hands.
If I don’t win, I’ll definitely put Tierno on my wish list hopefully at Stutches South in April, 2011.
Color: Faerie Dust
Pattern: This is the best part of finding yarn; looking for something to go with it! I think for one skein, I’d look at a pattern like the flower scarf:

oooooh! Would love to win a skein of “Timberline Shadows!” Wouldn’t that make a beautiful scarf or shawl.
Maybe the trees kept me from getting so much on the ground…but that is also the windy side!
Mmmmm….alpaca!
They’re all so pretty…but if I had to choose, I’d choose the Sandis Red Monochrome (or the Bruin…hard choice!)
I’d make the Kyla hat by Katya Frankel.
Hiya,
I hope you are able to take some time to enjoy the holidays with family and celebrate what you’ve been able to accomplish in such a short time.
I really like your Timberline Shadows in this yarn. I’ve never actually bought (or knit with) any alpaca yarn, so this blend would be a real treat.
Happy Holidays,
Betsy
All the colors are gorgeous, but the neutral multis like Charcoal Sketch, St. Paul’s Cathedral and Newsprint are what are really catching my eye (which is odd, because I joke that my closet looks like a rainbow threw up), and I think it would end up as a cowl or a scarf to cuddle up in.
I love the idea of baby alpaca and silk, I know it just feels as soft as it looks. I sometimes have trouble with wool and this would be a nice alternative for me.
Plus I just love all the wonderful color ways that you do, Yowza is my fav yarn, I am always bragging on it.
I think it would make a wonderful medium to large shawl to wrap up in on a cold day. I have the perfect pattern for the Bronze Plum – Faraway So Close Shawl, the pattern was designed for a friend who lost a baby and for Infant Loss Awareness.
Oh, so many beautiful choices! Alpaca and silk? I’m drooling all over my computer screen. I think I would have to make a Diamond Leaf Cowl in Forever Monochrome.
