Found This Poem, and Wanted to Share

One of my regular Sunday emails is a newlsetter from Maria Popova, called Brainpickings. Sometimes I read it in depth and many of the links she provides and sometimes I skim it. This poem connected with me this week and I thought I would share it with you.

____________

(I CARRY YOUR HEART WITH ME)
by E.E. Cummings

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear;and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
                                i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

______________

It is almost a year since my husband Ron passed, and I do carry his heart with me. I think it is a blessing and a wonder to have a beloved someone you carry with you. As I think of this idea, I know I have other hearts I carry with me.

Thank you everyone for helping me through this year. Your love and prayers are greatly appreciated.

Dear Babs, and every wonderful Heart………As a college English and Literature professor, I always loved sharing this e.e. cummings poem with my classes….oh, it says everything, doesn’t it? I think its interesting to know that yes, cummings had a great Love and he wrote this for her……but also, that he was held in solitary confinement for one entire year because he would not sign a pledge of allegiance to France, where he lived. After he was released, he changed his name to all small letters, in order to protest rules we follow without thinking. Thank you for sharing this poem and all the Beauty you create for all of us!!

Thank you for sharing this poem with us Ms. Babs. I always liked E.E. Cummings but this poem especially hit home, I lost three significant beings last year, my dad who passed on close to the time of your husband, my cat of 22 years, and the man I was involved with. However, know that our hearts are with you and the beauty and love you carry within your heart is projected onto the beautiful colors you and your team create. Our hearts are with you.

Thank you, Miss Babs! We lost our big girl, Sabrina, in 2004 when she was 18. I am never without her but I miss her constantly.

Dears Babs, the poem is beautiful. Thank you for sharing. I also lost my husband of 40 years. He died 2 years ago. I feel and share your pain. I am learning to not cry because he is gone but to smile because of the time we had together. Some people are not as blessed with such special love. Keep loving and living each day. Sending love and a hug.

Cathy
