Featured June 2021: Estrellita

What is there not to love? Estrellita is our glam yarn--with its 92% superwash merino, 8% lurex fiber content, this smooth fingering weight yarn is a workhorse with sparkle!

We primarily dye Estrellita in variegated colorways - both Babettes and Wild Irises - although we do dye some tonal or monochromatic colorways on this base as well. The lurex is a silver-toned filament carried alongside the wool, so there are no scratchy ends to stick out and bug you. As you can see, the lurex shows up more strongly on a darker colored yarn, so some colorways will 'pop' the sparkle more than others.

You might think that with the added lurex, Estrellita only works for shawls (and, yes, it does work nicely with decorative projects), but Veronica in the studio put all this sparkle on her feet! This is where Estrellita shines (pun intended)--the lurex adds the sparkle without any scratchiness typically associated with metallic yarns. You can use Estrellita knowing your finished project will be 'next-to-the-skin' soft. (She used our free Pedestrian sock pattern).

For more inspiration, take a peek at our Project Gallery. Consider substituting Estrellita in any fingering weight project where you're looking for a touch of sparkle - and it doesn't have to be the entire project! It's a fun choice for a contrast color in colorwork, to mix and match with other yarns in a large multicolored shawl, you name it.

In our latest video, Jennifer shares some insight about Estrellita and shows off some of our samples.
