The Scales and Shells pattern was designed by Jennifer Weissman. Our sample was knit in Miss Babs Moonglow held together with Yummy 2-Ply, both in the Atik colorway. This pattern can also be knit in a DK-weight yarn such as Yowza.
As a child, I loved walking along the beach, collecting seashells and feeling the sand under my feet. Years later, I delighted in sharing this pastime with my children. Scales and Shells is inspired by these times. The curves of scales and shells flow around its textured yoke, while pebbly ridges decorate its hems. The combination of silk mohair with fingering yarn evokes sun-washed coastal colors while producing a garment that is luxurious and warm, yet airy. If you wish to substitute yarn, DK weight merino also knits up beautifully. Scales and Shells is knitted from the neck down, allowing you to try it on for size as you knit. Stylish touches like a graceful scooped neckline, optional princess-seam shaping at the waist, and gently puffed sleeves create a sweater that is both flattering and sophisticated, one that you will reach for again and again.
You'll need 3-4 skeins of BOTH Moonglow and Yummy 2-Ply to complete this project. Choose the original colorway below − or try another color!
The Scales and Shells pattern is available on Ravelry. All patterns are sold separately and not included with the purchase of yarn.
