Nordura is a top-down seamless yoke sweater that is knit in the round. There is a ribbed neckline followed by short rows at the back of the neck for a comfortable fit. The yoke features stranded colorwork in a Lopapeysa Icelandic pattern with diamonds and zig zags. There is optional waist and hip shaping to add feminine shape, and the wrist cuffs are finished off with echoing elements of the yoke design.
The iconic Icelandic lopapeysa (meaning ‘sweater made of lopi’) is a decorative circular yoke sweater, usually knit seamlessly from the bottom up. The colorwork is often in earthy, natural tones, and the geometry tends to be bold, spiky or zig-zaggy. There are often elements of the colorwork yoke pattern around the hem and the cuffs. These designs, perceived to be traditional Icelandic garments, are actually a relatively new phenomenon, being developed in the mid-20th century.
