Keira: Pairs of Colors for Match & Move
Babs Ausherman
I knit a Match & Move in Graphic and Ebony and absolutely adore the feel of the yarn and the finished garment! We wanted to show some additional possible pairings of colors of Keira here, although the possibilities are endless. Read More
Summertime! and Our Vacation is Over!
Babs Ausherman
Back to the studio after our week off!! Many of us went to the beach with family, some of us went to the mountains with friends, and some of us did the Staycation.  It sounds like we all had a pretty good time, got rested and relaxed!      And now! It's time to start getting ready for SSK over in Nashville, TN in mid-July and Stitches Midwest in Schaumburg, IL in early August!!  Come see us!  We'll be doing some new things and have some new colors and project ideas... What's In A Name? Hot Shot!
Babs Ausherman
MDSW2015 on Hot Shot In case you couldn't tell, we love words here at the Miss Babs studio.  We love to name things, we love alliterations (using same letters at the beginning of words), we love finding the right name for a color, we love finding pictures in our picture book of animals and sea creatures and trees and more that help us to connect color with yarn names. I thought I would share the story of the naming of our 80/20 sock base.  That's 80% superwash merino and 20% nylon.... Read More
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!!
Babs Ausherman
Thank you all for a wonderful 2014! I find myself at this time of the year, like most years, taking stock of what has just passed and my hopes for the future. This year, like many in the recent past, has been a whirlwind. And, like most years there have been ups and downs, but it is important to keep putting one foot in front of the other.   I also take time to count my blessings and to consider what I have to be thankful for in the year that has... Martina's Easy Scarf
Babs Ausherman
I have been having fun knitting Martina's relatively new pattern called Easy.  It was designed in one skein of Zauberball which has a yardage of approximately 460 yards.  However, I chose to knit this with 2 different skeins of Kilimanjaro 437.  The first time I knit this, I used Ebony and Ansel.  I love this combination because I wear so much black and it makes a bold and striking statement.  Here's Jen modeling the scarves.     But the problem is that you can't see the change in direction that... Another K for the DK
Jennifer J
First off...Thank You!  Naming things is a constant activity here at Miss Babs, and generally we enjoy the process, have fun with it and make it a game.  Finding a name for our New DK yarn was makin' us crazy!  Thank you all for the suggestions and words that led us breadcrumb-like to our New DK's name...Kaweah DK.Your Mountain suggestions drew us to the western United States where we found another "K" to add to Katahdin and Kilimanjaro.  The word Kaweah is Yokuts Indian for "crow" and names not only... Babs' Birthday Colorway
Jennifer J
Happy Birthday!  Twirly Skirt is evocative of that feeling, as a little girl, of spinning in a circle with arms wide.  We've all had that special skirt, that spun with us and made us smile!  The colors are taken straight from the gardens here at the studio.  Babs has planted a variety of daylilies that usually decide to bloom right around her birthday.  We have the limited edition dry and posted to the website.  Post a comment here and we will randomly choose a winner on Wednesday July 2nd for... Vacation, Workshop Classes, and Asheville Nostalgia
Babs Ausherman
It's been a quick week.  But isn't that always the way with a vacation week? When you are dreaming about it weeks before, you think about all the things you are going to get done, or not do, on those 9 long days. So now it's over. I did not get done near what I had on my list, but I did get some very important things done, or not done. I actually relaxed. My mind has calmed. I had some nice talks with my husband. I cleaned some of... Read More
On The Road and At the Studio
Babs Ausherman
Babs here...Jen and I are on the road between Stitches Midwest and Michigan Fiber Festival.  At home, it has been raining cats and dogs and frogs.  Roads, and driveways, and basements are full of water!  Here's a picture Carmen took this morning of one of the roads in to where my house and studio are.     Apparently the road from the other direction has the asphalt coming up from it and and will be turning into a mud/clay mess?? The real reason for this post is to let you... Read More
Thursday - Where did the week go?
Babs Ausherman
It's Thursday already!  The week is almost gone and there is still lots to do!  I have some random things that need to be shared: We will select a winner for Helen's blog post the other day sometime today and post here and on Facebook and Ravelry. We are ramping up for shows in the Midwest and lots of things are being dyed, so we have started the pre-show frenzy that hits us periodically through the year. Jen and Jen are going to Nashville tomorrow for SSK - Super Summer... Read More
Daylilies in the Garden
Babs Ausherman
Here are some of the daylilies that are blooming right now in my garden.  I don't know the names of any of them, as I picked them for their colors and some were gifts.                 The wonderful thing about my daylilies are that they are right across the drive from the studio and add wonderful color to my day.  My sister Jeanne and I planted many of these about 10 years ago in memory of my mother - who loved to garden and see things grow.... Viajante! Coming Down to the End!
Babs Ausherman
My current project is a Viajante, a Martina Behm design.  She knit it out of Wollmeise lace and I am knitting it out of my Yasmin Lace. The shawl/overgarment (I'm not sure how it will fit me) has been one of those long knits that I have absolutely enjoyed.       Yasmin is wonderful in the hands...I am sure that is part of the enjoyment, but it is also one of those projects I can pick up at the end of the day and just keep knitting without having...
